Purpose
The IS “Museum” is a package information system for solution of a wide range of tasks of any museum’s activity. With the help of the IS “Museum” employees may form an electronic collection of museum values, archival materials, library stock, carry out scientific-research activity, and publish information about collection for public resource.
The IS “Museum” is a basic software product for formation of united information space in the sphere of culture which enables to make cultural heritage of the country available to the broad masses of people.
Main tasks
The IS “Museum” enables to solve the tasks as follows:
• to keep state records of museum value according to their classification and belonging to stocks (museum, archival or library);
• to form registration and storing documents (proceedings, certificates, registration books, cards);
• to register entries of receiving, transferring, returning of museum values both in a museum and outside its limits;
• to register, write-off and account the museum values restoration jobs;
• to make a scientific inventory, inventory and subject cataloging;
• to define the conditions of search and get on demand the information of collections in the form of card files, catalogues and lists;
• to make standard forms of museum activity reports;
• to submit information of a collection for public resource;
• to provide with data protection against unauthorized access;
• to separate rights of user by adjustable levels of access;
• to support work in multi-user mode;
• to administer remote users centrally.
Use
The IS “Museum” enable:
• to reduce costs for chores executing (receiving, inventory, motion of subjects) and documentation preparing;
• to have at any time topical and reliable information about the condition of stocks;
• to quicken formation of standard museum activity reports;
• to keep transparent records of receiving, inventory, motion of subjects both in a museum and outside its limits;
• to increase work efficiency of a museum’s employees at the expense of simplification and automation of accounting operations;
• to provide with efficient search of information about a subject using different criteria (within and outside the limits of a stock, by documents, by chronological order , by a given word, by types and parameters of subjects);
• to form an electronic collection of a museum which in prospect will enable to use all advantages of working with electronic information: publishing of information on different carriers, demonstration of the whole collection, placing of informational kiosks, formation of virtual exhibitions etc;
• to increase efficiency of a museum’s scientific-research activity at the expense of release of employees’ time and automation of accounting operations.
Experience of implementation
In 2008 the IS “Museum” was implemented and successfully works at the Museum of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Ease of installing and operating
The system has a number of tools simplifying the processes of product installation and operation, database adjustment, dataflow routing. Users are offered convenient, modern, ergonomic and intuitive interface:
Support of methodology
The system realizes the processes at most supporting the methodology of museums’ work. A possibility of record keeping and preparation of museum collection documents, archival materials and library stock with due regard of specificity of each stock was provided.
Support of the Kazakh language
The system has built-in support of coding СТРК 1048-2002 (Kazakh coding).
The system has flexible adjustment of parameters most conforming to specificity of users’ activity. Isolation of levels from each other make it possible to re-configure the system rapidly when scheduled maintenance or change of the structure of one of the system’s levels.
Mobility
User can connect to the system from any jobsite including by means of access to Internet.

Scalability
The system is able to increase productivity at the expense of installing additional servers of applications.
Package safety subsystem
Safety subsystem was worked out using the modern developing technologies. Adjustable roles and privileges make it possible to define complex and flexible strategies of delimitation of rights of access to information.

Flexibility and expandability of the product are provided by additional expansion and modernization of the system components in accordance with changes of the market needs and requirements of users.
